Martin Sybblis was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and arrived at UCONN
in the winter of 1997. While at UConn majoring in psychology, Sybblis was a vibrant student leader and peer mentor. He built relationships with his peers through
his roles as a Resident Assistant, President of the West Indian Student Awareness Organization, Chairperson of the Honors Council revitalization committee, and
a UConn Connects Facilitator. Sybblis also served the UConn community in the capacity of Student Interviewer in the University's Admissions Office and was
the founder of the International Nite Scholarship Award. As a tribute to his activism
on campus, he was awarded the 2000 Donald L. McCullough Outstanding Student Leader Award and the 2000 Student Multicultural Award. Sybblis graduated
UCONN Magna Cum Laude, Honors Scholar in 2000.
After UCONN, Sybblis attended the University of Michigan Law School, graduating
in 2003. Post law school, Sybblis served for a year as a law clerk to the Honorable Marcia G. Cooke, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Florida. Upon completing his clerkship, he worked in Boston for almost two years at the International law firm, Bingham McCutchen LLP, where he practiced corporate law. Sybblis currently serves as an Assistant County Attorney for Miami-Dade County,
one of the largest counties in the United States, where he represents the local government in civil matters on both the state and federal level. |
